Drain Cleaning Techniques That Can Help You

Jul 25, 2016

Drain cleaning is one of those services that everyone needs every once in a while, even if most people don’t think about it that much. There are a number of different drain cleaning techniques that are used in the industry today. You don’t need to know all the details about how these techniques work. However, it helps to know a little bit about them, so that you can understand the importance of drain cleaning. Let’s take a look at two of the most popular drain cleaning techniques.

Drain Snaking

For many years, drain snaking was far and away the most popular drain cleaning technique in the country. This method involves inserting a long cord into the drain, with an auger on the end of it. When the auger runs into a clog, it drills through it in order to allow water to flow through the pipe. Drain snaking is an excellent way to get rid of clogs, but it’s not quite as good at preventing new clogs from forming. That’s where the second method we’re going to cover comes in.

Hydro Jetting

Hydro jetting involves using a long hose, with an omnidirectional sprayer head attached to the end of it. A high pressure stream is then fired from the sprayer to blast all built up waste off of the pipe walls. Hydro jetting is much better at both removing complete clogs and preventing new ones from forming. This is why it is becoming more and more widely used across the country.

Neither of these systems has completely supplanted the other. It is up to your plumber to pick the best technique for your individual needs.
