Water quality is no small issue. Considering how much we rely on water for various chores during the day—from bathing to cooking—it’s critical that your water supply be clean and clear of contaminants and pollutants. But is yours? It can be tough to know exactly what the status of your water supply is without professional water testing (we do that, too!).

Our water filtration system service often begins with an evaluation of your water quality because there are several different options available to homeowners today, ranging from carbon filters to reverse osmosis systems.

Let our Master Plumbers be your guide to improving the water that you drink, bathe in, and cook with. We have been Flowing Along Since 1920!, and in 90 + years that we’ve been in business, we have learned how important our customers are to our success. Should You Be Filtering Your Tap Water?

The EWG (Environmental Working Group) shows that Kansas City area water is polluted by industry contaminants and general runoff. Lutz Plumbing recommends a whole house water filtration system for the best contamination removal for the cleanest possible water in your home. Read more on our water filtration guidelines here.

What's Wrong with your Water?

It’s not always easy to tell, and only a professional water test will be able to give you the information that you need to make a decision. Before setting up a water filtration system, the Kansas City plumbers at Lutz Plumbing, Inc. test for these common water issues:

Chemicals

Chlorine and fluoride are often put into water supplies for disinfection, but if you don’t want them in your water, you can install a water filtration system that will give you full control.

Metals

From barium and chromium to selenium, lead, and copper, there are plenty of metals that can infiltrate your water supply. While not everything is dangerous in small quantities, it’s important to know the levels so that you can decide what you want and don’t want in your water supply.

Minerals

Water with high amounts of calcium and magnesium is known as "hard water." While not typically harmful to humans, it can do long–term damage to your plumbing pipes. Once mineral sediment hardens within those pipes, it can lead to premature pipe replacement.

There are several options when it comes to water filtration systems, including carbon filters, water softeners, UV water purifiers, as well as the most comprehensive option: the reverse osmosis system. Our goal is to find a system that matches your needs precisely. But in general, we recommend that customers take a whole–house approach to their water quality problems.

Benefits of Whole-House Filtration

How Do Water Softeners Benefit You?

Water softeners use sodium chloride (NaCl) or potassium chloride to change the molecular composition of hard water, making it easier on appliances and preventing mineral buildup. These systems are particularly helpful in areas with very high levels of dissolved minerals that cause unsightly stains, especially on glassware.

How Does Reverse Osmosis Benefit You?

Reverse osmosis is a highly effective method of water filtration that uses a series of membranes and filters to extract contaminants from the water supply. It’s particularly helpful in taking out impurities that affect health, taste, or appearance.

A whole–house water filtration system is installed at the main water line so that the entire home’s water supply is affected. That means not having to worry about the difference between the water you cook and shower with, and the water that you drink from the tap.
