Problems That Require Sewer Cleaning

Oct 31, 2016

Your sewer line is the pipe that runs from your home to the septic tank or municipal sewer main. All waste that travels through your home’s sewer system will flow through the sewer line, as well. It’s important that you keep your sewer line in good condition, if you want your sewer system to continue operating properly. One of the best ways to maintain your sewer line is to schedule sewer cleaning on a fairly regular basis. Read on to find out more about why you need to schedule sewer cleaning.

Lime Scale

Lime scale is a type of mineral deposit that is caused by long-term exposure to hard water. Hard water is water with a high quantity of magnesium and calcium minerals in it. As it flows over a surface, it deposits more and more of these minerals on it until they form lime scale. Lime scale will build up in your sewer line over time, slowly restricting the flow of wastewater through the pipe. If the lime scale is not cleaned out of the pipe early enough, it will harden and become nearly impossible to remove.

Tree Roots

Tree roots are a common problem for sewer lines. As nearby tree root structures grow outwards in search of new water sources, they will often puncture the sewer lines of nearby homes. Once the root has successfully penetrated the line, it will expand throughout the pipe until it clogs. The roots will need to be cleaned out of the sewer line to free up the flow of water through the pipe. You should schedule sewer cleaning at least once a year to prevent this problem from recurring.
