Common Drain Cleaning Methods You Should Know About

Jan 16, 2017

Drain cleaning is something that should always be done by a professional, at least if you want it done properly. The last thing you want to do is to rely on store bought drain cleaners, for a number of reasons. When you hire a professional plumber to handle your drain cleaning for you, there are a couple of different ways that they could go about it. Read on to find out more about these different drain cleaning methods.

Drain Snaking

The most common type of drain cleaning solution, and typically the first one that a plumber will try. A drain snake is a long cord with an auger attached to the end of it. The cord is inserted into the clogged drain, until the auger meets whatever is blocking it. The auger then drills through the clog to free up the flow of water through the drain. This deals with the majority of clogs, but there are some times that a drain snake isn’t able to deal with it. For times like those, you’re going to need to use hydro jetting.

Hydro Jetting

Hydro jetting involves using a high-pressure stream of water to blast any blockages or waste buildup out of the pipe. Think of it as a miniature fire hose, with one major exception. The hydro jet uses an omnidirectional sprayer head, which allows it to reach all areas of the pipe. This is ideal for not only solving the current drain issue, but preventing blockages from forming as easily in the future, as well.
