Keep Your Water Line in Good Condition with These Tips

Jan 08, 2018

Schedule Maintenance

As is the case with the rest of your plumbing system, most of the problems that you’re likely to run into with your water line are not going to give advance warning. The only time when symptoms tend to show up with water line issues is if they’ve had quite a long time to develop and cause more problems for the pipe. The best way to correct these issues is to catch them early, before they actually develop far enough to show symptoms. That’s not always possible, but with preventive maintenance it’s much more likely.

A preventive maintenance appointment for your water line typically involves inserting a camera into the pipe. This allows your plumber to closely examine the water line from the inside without having to dig up the entire pipe. Any problem areas can be noted and dealt with as quickly as possible. Preventive maintenance can go a long way towards preventing problems from gaining a foothold, and save you a lot of money in repair costs over the life of the system. It’s not all that important when you schedule your maintenance appointment for your water line. Just make sure that you have it done at least once every year or two.

Call for Repairs When You Notice Something

Maintenance appointments can dramatically reduce the odds of problems occurring over time. However, they are not 100% reliable. You still need to keep an eye out for any signs that your water line is in trouble, so that you know when to call for repairs. You may not be able to prevent all of the damage the problem might cause, but you can at least limit it as much as possible.

Puddles forming in the yard, seemingly out of nowhere, are a common sign that there is a problem of some kind with your water line. When a leak or rupture occurs, water will often filter up through the ground and pool on the surface. You should also keep an eye out for dropping water pressure throughout the house, as this tends to indicate a major leak or blockage in the water line.
