Signs You Have a Plumbing Leak

Jun 13, 2016

Plumbing problems are a pain for a number of reasons, not least of which being that they are so difficult to detect. Most homeowners don’t realize that they have a problem with their plumbing system until it’s too late to prevent the majority of the damage. Plumbing leaks are the most common plumbing problem, and can cause all sorts of issues. If you know what to look for, though, you can tell when it’s time to call for a plumber. Let’s take a look at some signs that you have a plumbing leak.

Rising Water Bills

Your water bills are going to rise and fall with use from month to month anyway. When you have a plumbing leak, however, you’ll notice them rising steadily. If your water bills seem to be continuously going up regardless of your water usage, call for a plumber to check your system.

Running Water Meter

If you want to find out fast if you have a leak in your plumbing system, try turning off all the plumbing appliances in your home and checking your water meter. If the water meter is still running, it means that water is still leaving the system somewhere, which means that you have a leak.

Loss of Water Pressure

If your water pressure is steadily declining, it could mean that you have a leak or blockage somewhere in your system. Either way, you should call for repairs right away to confirm the problem. If there is a sudden loss of water pressure, it could mean that a pipe has ruptured somewhere. If that happens, you need to call for emergency plumbing services right away.
