3 Ways to Save Water This Summer

Jun 27, 2016

Are your water bills higher than they should be? Are you concerned about the local environment and would like to cut down on how much water your family uses? Whatever your reasoning may be, reducing your water needs is not difficult to do. While there are dozens of ways to do so, here are 3 to get you started.

1. Invest in a low-flow toilet.

Also known as a low-flush toilet, this type of device can save you substantial bucks during the course of the year. Reducing the water flushed by as much as 20% below the federal standard, a toilet with the WaterSense label could save you thousands of gallons per year. Over the course of its service life, that could be as much as $2000. We’re currently offering  $75 off the installation of an Ultra Flush toilet .

2. Install aerators on all faucets.

You can take a similar approach to all of your faucets, including those in your bathroom and kitchen sinks, as well as any utility sinks in the home or in the attached garage. Standard faucets have a gallons-per-minute rating of 2.0, whereas a low-flow aerator can have one as low as 0.5. It can make a huge difference, and such aerators are typically easy to find in your local hardware store. We can also install them for you.

3. Take care of any leaks.

If your toilet is running or you have a faucet with a slow drip, make sure to have it fixed sooner than later. Such problems don’t fix themselves, and they’re costing you money, not to mention being a complete waste of clean, potable water. If you notice a strange increase in your water bill, then you might even have a hidden water leak.
