Are your most important investments protected from water damage that may occur during the next storm or power outage?  Don't wait until it's too late, and  have a sump pump installed or inspected to help keep the lower level areas of your home or business, and all they contain, clean and dry.  Sump pumps are used to remove water that has collected in a pit from drainage pipes, discharging the water outside.

Here is some helpful information on sump pumps:

  • Some pumps can be tested to ensure proper function by simply moving the float mechanism on the outside of the pump to see if it activates.  If your pump does not switch on after you adjust the float, you may need a new sump pump.  There are sump pumps that have an internal float which can be more difficult to test.  If you have concerns about your sump pump and it's function, feel free to call us and we can help you troubleshoot.
  • If you are able to activate your pump and water drains out of the pit through the discharge line, but then comes back in from that same line, you may need a check valve installed or your existing one may have failed and should be replaced.  The sump pump check valve is an important part of the system as it keeps the water that is in the discharge line from re-entering the sump pit once the pump shuts off.
  • As a general rule, sump pumps should be replaced every five to seven years to avoid a lapse in performance.
  • If you have a finished basement or items of value where there is a potential for water damage, consider installing a battery back-up sump pump system.  This set-up is beneficial in case of a power outage in severe weather, during which water damage can occur.  Let your insurance company know you've installed a battery back up system and they may offer a discount on your policy for having this extra protection!

Lutz Plumbing offers a variety of sump pump brands and warranties and will work with you to find the perfect fit for your needs.  Whether your home or business is already flooding or you are taking the steps to avoid this costly and messy situation, call us anytime at (913) 888-9500.
